English Language Program


This program is designed for students who may wish to learn English for a variety of reasons, to suggest a few’

  • pursue higher education
  • businessmen and professionals who aspire for career enhancement in India
  • individuals desirous of Permanent Residency (PR)
  • women/men seeking career
  • personality development

Assessment

The student’s progress is regularly monitored and reported through task-based assessment and progress checks. Student success will depend on satisfactory
results (55% or higher) on ongoing assessment tasks and end-of-course
examinations in writing, reading, listening and speaking.

Ongoing Assessments

Students are interviewed by the class teacher after one week of their level placement to make sure their level is correct.

Graduation Certificate

At the end of the program, students attend a formal graduation where they are
awarded an ACCT Certificate of Attendance which indicates the completion
level.

Entry Requirements

The placement is determined by a reading, writing and grammar test followed by an oral interview when the student enters ACCT. The level placement is based on the student’s knowledge of English as well as their ability to communicate both written and verbal.

Materials used

Course book, set text, videos, CD ROMs, DVDs, Internet based language
resources, print media resources, graded readers and a Virtual Language Lab.

Course Structure and Modules

ACCT offers a structured methodology for learning effectiveness with three modules

Level 1: Learning English
Level 2: Enhancing English
Level 3: Business English

Module Title : LEARNING ENGLISH

Aim of the Module
:
This level is for students who have a very basic knowledge of English. The students learn the usage of different tenses. They also take part in basic conversational English. The students are taught correct pronunciation and accurate application of English.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:
The students learn to express themselves; read and pronounce with accuracy; sharpen their listening skills. They will be able to understand and convey the correct meaning in the required context.


Module Title : ENHANCING ENGLISH

Aim of the Module :
At this level, students will be able to use a variety of tenses and structures.
Students will make deductions from given information as well as using specific language for a certain situation. The students extend their writing skills and will be able to write short texts such as emails and personal letters. There is a focus on listening comprehension and further development of the student’s ability to understand and use English on the telephone.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:
The students will acquire a higher standard in the application of English language in business context. They will be required to demonstrate effective listening skills; widen their reading; usage of expressions for day to day situations. The students will develop adequate self confidence while using the components of effective communication.

Module Title : BUSINESS ENGLISH

Aim of the Module :
At this level students will be able to use a variety of tenses and structures to express themselves and understand longer, more complicated texts. They will be able to read to extract specific information and exact meaning. They will also take part in group discussions and mock interviews. Furthermore, students will improve their ability to write and edit varied texts.

Measurable Learning Outcomes:
The students will be able to read, understand and use an extended range of language for communicative purposes. Students will be equipped to give oral presentations, work out hidden meaning from text, listen for substance, utilize and organize research material from multiple sources.
